Orthopedics and Traumatology

What is Orthopedics and Traumatology?

The branch of medicine that deals with diseases of the musculoskeletal system is called orthopedics and traumatology. Orthopedics, a word of Latin origin, consists of the combination of the words ortho and pedios. Ortho means “proper” and pedios means “child”. Traumatology, on the other hand, deals with the restoration of the organs of the injured movement system to their former functions.  Orthopedics and traumatology specialists treat joint calcification, sports injuries (anterior cruciate ligament, meniscus, tendon injuries, etc.), fractures, dislocations, sprains, shoulder problems (shoulder impingement, shoulder muscle tears, shoulder dislocations), hand and foot surgery,It deals with certain topics.

Joint calcifications: With advancing age, the cartilage tissues that make up the joints begin to wear out. Calcification can be slowed down with non-surgical treatment methods, but it is not possible to stop it. Fractures and dislocations: Deterioration of the anatomical structure of the bone is called fracture, and its separation from the joints is called dislocation. The forces that create the fracture can damage surrounding tissues, tendons, nerves and skin. Treatment methods vary depending on the type and location of the fracture.

  • Knee cap calcification

  • kneecap tendinitis

Shoulder injuries: The shoulder is the most mobile joint of the body. It provides many advantages thanks to its rotation ability, but this feature causes a lot of injuries to the shoulder joint. For example, a shoulder that has dislocated once is likely to dislocate again.  If shoulder impingement is left untreated, it can turn into the dire situation we call frozen shoulder.

  • Shoulder tear, rotator cuff tear

  • Recurrent shoulder dislocation

  • frozen shoulder

  • ingrown nail

  • Morton's neuroma

  • heel spur

Children's orthopedics:

  • Congenital hip dislocation

  • flat feet

  • clubfoot

  • Perthes disease

Trauma surgery:

  • Trauma-related diseases such as falls, traffic accidents and work accidents
